Helen
Froelich Plummer (USA)
|
(But wants to be Canadian so bad she married Ray)
A veteran of both Middlebury and
Taft hockey, in Helen's first 2 years with Beijing
International, she has toured Manila , Hong Kong, Taiyuan
and Mongolia. She has a barrage of assists from winning
face-offs and goals from blasting the biscuit past
goalies with her boomer of a slap-shot. More importantly,
she has stepped forward to help organize and run Beijing
Hockey. In 1999, Helen organized a tour for her home club
team, The New Jersey Hunt Club Foxes. It was a complete
China Tour, including games in Harbin, and Beijing in
which she was able to play against the Chinese Mens
National Team and the Mongolian Men's Olympic Team. From
Manila she will always remember the little people and the
Hollywood Fan Club. In her first tournament of Y2K, she
finished 3rd in scoring in the UB-Cup, and was the first
foreign woman against the Mongolian Men's team. Her level
of Chinese is a great asset to the team for
organizing with the local officials.
In the fall of 2000, in her first rugby game versus
the Chinese National Women's side, Helen broke her leg and blew her ACL
in her knee. After surgery and rehab, and coaching the Beijing High
School Team for two years, by the spring of 2002, Helen took to the ice
again, and played with Team Tai Tai in the Hong Kong '02 Tournament.
Helen met Ray Plummer here in Beijing at Center
Ice, and got married in 2003, a wedding complete with a hockey & rugby
games. The two have left Beijing for grad
school in the States. Look for them to be back on the ice in Asia!
